History
Building Blocks Childcare was established in 1993 and serves the community of Highlands, Crosby, and Baytown. We were awarded 4 stars, the highest ranking possible, in early 2011 by Collaborative for Children and are now a certified Texas Rising Star Childcare Center . This means that Building Blocks goes above and beyond the minimum standards set forth by the State of Texas voluntarily and we gladly do more each day to educate and care for our children.
Philosophy
Building Blocks Childcare is dedicated to the philosophy that all children are special and develop best in a positive and loving environment. We believe that childcare and development must be filled with love, joy, and fun! We also believe in presenting a holistic learning curriculum that allows children to exceed their educational requirements.
Certified Texas Rising Star Provider!
We are certified and selected to work with Collaborative for Children to become a Texas Rising Star Provider. We are one of the few child care providers that voluntarily achieve the Texas Rising Star Provider Certification, offering quality care that exceeds the State’s Minimum Child Care Licensing standards for health and safety, group size, child/staff ratios, caregiver training, and age-appropriate curricula and activities. We hope that we will contribute most significantly to the early development of our children in all areas (social, emotional, physical, and intellectual). Curriculum and Childcare Environment
Building Blocks Childcare teaches the Creative Curriculum
with core learning areas.
The Creative curriculum rests on a firm foundation of research
and responds to new requirements for addressing academic content.
The
approach from its beginning has been developed
based on the theories and research
that inform decision making in the early childhood field. The works of
Piaget, Maslow,
Erickson, Smilansky, Vygotsky, and
Gardner are all implemented in creative curriculum. Creative Curriculum
helps children
acquire social competence and the
skills they need to succeed as learners.
The Creative Curriculum approach takes a look at the teacher and helps them observe children more purposefully. Through these observations, the teacher is able to comprise a plan which can be administered to the individual or to the whole group. The Creative Curriculum approach enables teachers to integrate content learning and bring it into everyday experiences.
The Creative Curriculum framework is composed of five components. Each of these five components is applied to 11 areas that have already been definied. These five componets:

Our teachers are all current on their yearly training and CPR/First Aid training. Each teacher fosters growth in all areas of child development: social, emotional, physical, and intellectual. Our children are provided with nutritious breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Also, twice a day, our children have time outside to stretch their legs and greet the sun in our large playground!
Our goal is that each child enjoys their childcare experience with us and is excited about learning. We achieve this goal by carefully planning daily activities that are both fun and developmentally appropriate for each age group in a safe, healthy and structured environment.
